Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has reportedly 'tested positive for coronavirus' just six days after he dinned with President Donald Trump in the US.
Top Rio de Janeiro newspaper, O Dia, reported the that president Bolsonaro’s test has come back positive for coronavirus
This comes after Bolsonaro’s press secretary, Fabio Wajngarten was diagnosed with the virus following their trip to the US for a meeting. His son Eduardo Bolsonaro, a congressman was also on the trip.
After the meeting, Donald Trump hosted a dinner for Mr. Bolsonaro. His aide, Mr. Wajngarten also stopped by the birthday party of Kimberly Guilfoyle, an adviser to Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign and the girlfriend of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
Mr. Trump also attended Kimberly's party, according to the New York Times.
Mr. Wajngarten, who was tested in Sao Paulo received his positive result on Thursday after showing signs of flu.
Trump later told reporters that same day: "I'm not concerned," before White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, played down Mr. Trump’s level of exposure.
She said in a statement on Thursday: "Both the president and vice president had almost no interactions with the individual who tested positive and do not require being tested at this time."
She also indicated that neither Mr. Trump nor Mr. Pence intended to self-quarantine as a precautionary measure.
She said: "There is currently no indication to test patients without symptoms, and only people with prolonged close exposure to confirmed positive cases should self-quarantine. Exposures from the case are being assessed, which will dictate next steps."
President Trump has since suspended all flights to the US from Europe except UK and Ireland for the next 30 days
In the US, the number of confirmed cases has soared to over 1,200 with more than 118,000 cases and 4,290 deaths worldwide.
